New faces at Sahir House

We are excited to introduce you to some new faces who have recently joined Sahir House team.

Katrina (Kat) Taylor (she/they) has joined us from The Hive and will be developing our LGBTQ+ community engagement work.  Kat will be working closely with the community and our collaborators with a view of creating opportunities and events throughout the Liverpool City Region.  If you have any ideas that you’d like to discuss with Kat please email katrina.taylor@sahir.uk.com

“Hi everyone! I am Kat, I use she/they pronouns and I am the new LGBTQ+ Community Engagement Worker here at Sahir House.  I am a bubbly, giggly person who will try and find the light in a dark room with no windows if I can. I am obsessed with skulls especially sugar skulls, taxidermy and generally having a ball in life. I love rainbows, glitter, tattoos and I can’t say no to a decent pair of Vans or Doc Martens.

Fun Fact about me, I grew up in Wales so can speak minimal… I mean minimal Welsh, oh and I have sailed around the Channel Islands taking part in a Regatta, in a Challenge Ship.”

Our dedicated board of trustees oversee the governance and strategic direction of the charity in accordance with our vision, mission and values.  We are delighted to welcome Sam East (he/him) to our Trustee Board.

“I’m so thrilled to be joining the board of Sahir House, having long admired their formidable work on HIV/AIDS and advocacy for the wider intersecting LGBT and minority communities across Merseyside.

I am one of Liverpool’s youngest elected officials – serving the Warbreck ward on Liverpool City Council – and an “out” gay man. There have been vast strides forward for the sexual health of our community in the last few decades and Sahir has been at the heart of that journey. It is a genuine honour to be joining the organisation as it continues this vital work, but also diversifies its campaigns to provide the most support it can to our community, especially as we approach that gold standard of zero new transmissions of HIV.

I’m so looking forward to meeting everyone across the organisation, hearing your ideas, and sharing a few of my own! Please get in touch – I’m always happy to chat”.

Historically, Sahir House has been proud to host Social Work placements with students from across the Liverpool City Region.  Students are embedded into the Sahir House team where they are supported and encouraged to develop their skills, knowledge and experience delivering wellbeing support and advocacy services.  Welcome to our current students, Liam and Jane.

If you are interested in taking a future placement at Sahir House please ask your University course tutor to get in touch, info@sahir.uk.com
